PARSE – Platform for Artistic Research Sweden
PARSE is an international art and research publishing and conferencing initiative based at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
PARSE is a part of the Faculty of Fine, Applied, and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg. It develops and produces a variety of publishing forms and methods for peer review, and provides a forum for dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of new knowledge production.
We host occasions to meet in person: a biennial conference in Gothenburg the 46th week of every odd year, and more frequent events – dialogues – that are hosted in Sweden, Italy, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere. We publish an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that is archived in the Library of Sweden: PARSE Journal. We host occasions to meet in virtual space: an internet-based publishing platform with news, events, journal articles, and media archives.
The name PARSE has been adopted to indicate a movement back and forth between analysis and creation, between meaning-making and the analytics of meaning, between construction and re-construction. PARSE bridges gaps, and strengthens the field of artistic research by meeting its needs for new forms of peer review, publication, and conferencing.
PARSE addresses a broad range of academics, artists, and art audiences who are curious about the intersection of art and research, and the contribution of the arts to knowledge-making.
The PARSE Working Group guides the research arcs, coordinates researchers and publications, and plans events.
